INC's Philippine Stadium eyed as venue for Suzuki Cup match

WITH the semifinal place of the Philippine national men’s football team in the 2014 ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup already secured following its 4-0 rout of Indonesia on Wednesday, team officials have begun weighing possible venues where they can host the home leg of their semis fixture.

In a message posted on his Twitter account (@dscpalami) right after the win over the Indonesian side, Philippine Azkals team manager Dan Palami sought out the opinion of fans about their venue preference for the home match.

“Now for a poll: where would you prefer to watch the semis, Rizal Stadium or the new Philippine Stadium? Kindly answer and retweet. Thanks,” Palami’s tweet read.

In 2012, the Azkals hosted their semifinal home match against Singapore at the historic Rizal Memorial Football Stadium but not without “glitches” in relation to amenities and the pitch itself. The 30,000-seating capacity stadium has since undergone improvements on various fronts and is now deemed more equipped to host than the previous years.

The Philippine Stadium, reportedly with a capacity of some 25,000, meanwhile, is located inside the Bocaue, Bulacan, property of the Iglesia Ni Cristo. It sits right next to the humongous Philippine Arena and is designed for multipurpose activities.
