Iglesia ni Cristo caps 100th year with Unity Games

AS its centennial year closes and its 101st anniversary dawns this July 27, the Iglesia Ni Cristo will stage the first international championships of its multi-sports federation, known as “Unity Games” as one of the highlights of its anniversary commemoration.

Around 2,000 athletes representing INC membership from 17 countries worldwide will compete in 12 sports events, namely basketball, volleyball, football, baseball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, badminton, bowling, chess, taekwondo, andtrack and field.

Iglesia’s estafa raps ground Chris Brown

Immigration officials prevented American recording artist Chris Brown from leaving the country on Wednesday due to an estafa case filed against him recently by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).

Brown was scheduled to board a chartered flight at 2 p.m. from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Hong Kong where he was to hold another concert.

The controversial artist grabbed headlines in 2009 after he beat up his girlfriend at that time, singer Rihanna. Brown was in Manila for a concert Tuesday night at SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Iglesia Ni Cristo 101st anniversary, declared a working holiday

JULY 27, which falls on Monday, is a special national working holiday, the Malacañang Palace said, adding that there will be classes in all schools on the said date. The Palace declared July 27 as a holiday for the nation to commemorate the founding anniversary of the Iglesia ni Cristo in the Philippines.

Church begins services in Scenic

Not much was known about Iglesia ni Cristo's plans for the small town of Scenic when the church purchased most of the land four years ago.

But recently, a picture of the religious group that bought a South Dakota small town, and the group's plans for the future, have become a little clearer. A new pastor who arrived in South Dakota recently shared one openly stated goal: to build a house of worship and try to establish a strong regional membership.

Albert backs out of ‘Sugo’

ALBERT BACKS OUT – Albert Martinez is no longer in the cast of “Sugo,” the filmbio of Bishop Felix Manalo, founder of the Iglesia ni Cristo. He backed out for personal reasons.

This was confirmed by Albert’s manger, Shirley Kuan, who actually suggested the move, knowing how difficult the situation was.

These are trying times for Albert and his three children – Alyanna, Alfonso, Alyssa – as wife and mother Liezl recently died of cancer. More than ever, the Martinez family has to be for each other.
